I used to work in a restaurant where there was some kind of system for, I assume, washing the stovehoods. At least, that was the only explanation I could think of for a large red button on the wall labelled "Gaylord Hoodwash". I always thought he should be the villain in a victorian melodrama.

Also, there is a california native plant called Bigelow Sneezeweed.

In Dallas, Texas there used to be a hospital named "Dedman".

Coincidentally enough, they really DID have the highest rate of negligence cases in the tri-state area. They later changed it to "RHD Memorial hospital" for good ol' Robert H. Dedman himself. But noone calls it that.

What's now "Harvey's" (in The Castro) used to be "The Elephant Walk". But everyone called it "The Elephant Cock".

The Castro has lots of amusing "popular" names. Twin Peaks, much favored by older gay men for its bench-to-ceiling windows and excellent location, is known as "The Glass Coffin". Now-closed health food restaurant Amazing Grace was "Amusing Grease", while fashionable Cafe Flore is "Cafe Hairdo". But I digress, as usual.

Moby Dick's is real, as is Daddy's. The Pendulum misses its opportunity by *not* being an explicitly bisexual bar.

There is a similarly named tavern in the Boston area. I didn't go, but someone told me that their schtick was that they were deliberately rude in an exaggerated, comical fashion. Charming. Makes me wonder if it was "Dicks" (no apostrophe)

I'm hoping also what would fit into this tribe might be tragically, comedically or ironically named people and/or things. Fer instance, for a long time, there was a drinking establishment in the Castro neighborhood in San Francisco by the name of "Dick's".
