It is, of course, terribly culturally insensitive to say this, but I get a kick out of really long Thai names.
The first I encountered was Changsurirothenothenom.

Fri, October 29, 2004 - 2:45 PMChaat Butsunturn. He's a total California dude, and I remember him railing against people who couldn't pronounce his name once (while drunk):
"But. Sun. Turn. Three ordinary words. Why can't people say them one after the other?"
(Remember that, Amy? I think you were there.) -

Tue, February 15, 2005 - 10:22 AMThat must be a relatively common name in Thailand. I've met a Supaporn. (unlikely to be the same person) -

BONK?!
Tangential, but oddly germane: Amy, recall the time in Northridge when you ran into a couple of Korean girls from Brasil, speaking fluent Portuguese?
Am I remembering that tableau correctly? -

Re: thai names
Thu, July 28, 2005 - 12:02 PMYes! That's exactly right! They worked with me at Tam's.
I didn't know at the time what language it was. They were in the break room, and I was headed that way. I stopped around the corner from them, listening and thinking, "That's not Spanish... That's not French... That's not Korean... That's not Italian... What the hell kinda langauge is that!?"
Then I went and asked someone. That's when I found out they were from Brazil.
